Every great store has a story. Ours has a dog.
His name is Bowes. He belongs to my daughter Alyssa — her doggo, her shadow, her self-appointed neighborhood watch captain. He's a four (almost five!) year old rescue hound mix living in Minnesota, and he has the kind of face that makes strangers stop mid-stride just to say hello.
A Shelter Dog Who Chose His Person
In August 2021, Alyssa adopted Bowes from Secondhand Hounds (now known as The Bond Between) at just 10 weeks old. He came in underweight, nervous, and very tired — but from the moment they met, it was love at first sight. With lots of love, good food, and plenty of treats, he quickly gained weight and grew into the handsome 65lb boy we know and love today.
Shelter dogs have a way of knowing. Bowes knew.
A Life Well Lived (and Well Walked)
Since coming home, Bowes and Alyssa have packed in a lot of living together. Multiple training classes. Many (MANY) new places to walk and explore. Doggy daycare. A visit to see buffalo in a state park. Meetups with his littermate, Finnigan. Sniffing goats on a farm. And so much more.
He loves to play frisbee and tug-o-war, wrestle with his best friend Luna, and — Alyssa's personal favorite — cuddle on the couch under a cozy blanket.
A Big Baby in the Best Way
If you met Bowes, you'd understand immediately. He is a loyal confidante (he'll never spill your secrets), a dedicated protector (he once saved the household from a break-in and never hesitates to take the first bite of anything suspicious — just to make sure it hasn't been poisoned), and an unlicensed therapist available 24/7.
Even on a tough day, Bowes gives Alyssa a reason to keep going — especially where walks and potty breaks are concerned.
He's always Alyssa's Valentine. He gets treats from the Easter Bunny. He poses with his themed Halloween pumpkin every year. He has his own special dog-safe Thanksgiving feast. And Santa never forgets him — because he's such a good boy.
Bowes is more than just a dog. He's truly Alyssa's best friend.
The Moment Everything Changed
It wasn't one single moment — it was a hundred small ones. Watching Bowes light up over a new toy. Seeing Alyssa's face when he was happy. Realizing how much thought goes into finding products that are actually good enough for a dog you love that much.
